4-Day Kenya Highlights Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Naivasha – Crescent Island – Lake Nakuru

Driving Time: Approx. 3 hours
Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Your safari adventure begins at 7:00 am, when your professional CATS driver-guide collects you in a private 4×4 Safari Jeep. Enjoy a scenic drive along the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment, with stops along the way to stretch your legs and take in sweeping views of the valley below.

Arriving at Lake Naivasha, you’ll embark on a peaceful boat safari across the freshwater lake, gliding past pods of hippos and spotting birdlife such as pelicans, cormorants, and fish eagles.

Next, visit Crescent Island, a private sanctuary where you’ll enjoy a guided walking safari—one of the few places in Kenya where you can safely walk among free-roaming wildlife. Encounter zebra, giraffe, buffalo, impala, gazelle, and other gentle grazers up close.

In the afternoon, continue to Lake Nakuru National Park, a spectacular setting framed by acacia forest, waterfalls, rocky escarpments, and wooded hills. The park is renowned for its rich birdlife and is home to Rothschild’s giraffes and one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. With some luck, you may also spot lions, leopards, or cheetahs.

Spend the evening relaxing at your selected lodge or tented camp within or near the park.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve

Distance: Approx. 340 km
Driving Time: 4–5 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Start the day with an early game drive in Lake Nakuru, then journey onward to the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. As you travel, enjoy scenic stops and changing landscapes as you enter Maasai land.

Arrive in the Mara in the afternoon and enjoy lunch amid rolling hills and endless golden grasslands. This world-famous reserve supports enormous populations of grazing animals and the predators that follow them.

Later, set out on your first Masai Mara game drive, exploring the plains in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalos, and more. Share any special wildlife interests with your guide—he will tailor the experience to make your time in the Mara exceptional.

Overnight at your chosen Mara lodge or tented camp.

Day 3: Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today is devoted entirely to safari exploration, with unlimited game drives across the reserve.

If you are visiting during the Great Migration season (June–October), you may witness vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles crossing into the Mara—one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth.

Year-round, the Masai Mara offers outstanding opportunities to see big cats, including lions, cheetahs, and leopards, alongside elephants, rhinos, giraffes, and countless other species.

Enjoy a picnic lunch by the Mara River, where hippos wallow and crocodiles lie in wait.

Optional experiences include:

  • A Maasai village visit, offering insight into the culture and traditions of the region’s indigenous people
  • An early-morning hot air balloon safari, floating silently over the plains as the sunrise illuminates the landscape below

Your final safari evening will be spent at your Mara lodge or tented camp.

Day 4: Masai Mara – Nairobi

Driving Time: Approx. 5–6 hours
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, begin your relaxed drive back to Nairobi, with scenic stops along the way to enjoy the countryside and capture final photos.

Lunch will be served en route, and you’ll arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon. You will be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or the airport.

Four days. Four remarkable destinations. From lakes and escarpments to open savannahs, you will have experienced Kenya’s diverse ecosystems and extraordinary wildlife.
