Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Diani Beach to Tsavo East National Park

~180km | Approx. 3.5 hrs

6:00 AM — Your driver-guide collects you from your Diani Beach hotel. The private 4×4 Land Cruiser heads north-west through the coastal hinterland — coconut palms and mango orchards thin out as the landscape dries and turns to rust-red earth. Baobab trees stand like ancient sentinels along the road.

Enter Tsavo East National Park through Bachuma Gate by mid-morning. Tsavo's legendary red elephants appear immediately — enormous herds dust-bathing in iron-rich laterite soil, their hides glowing crimson. Your guide follows the Galana River — massive crocodiles bask on sandbanks, hippos surface in deeper pools, and doum palms line the banks where lesser kudu hide.

Visit Lugard Falls — bizarre water-sculpted rock formations where the river forces through narrow channels. Continue to Aruba Dam where buffalo, waterbuck, and zebra jostle at the waterline under circling fish eagles. The afternoon game drive tracks lion prides through the golden grass and watches for cheetah on termite mounds. Check into your lodge as the red earth glows in the setting sun.

Day 2

Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park

~90km | Approx. 1.5 hrs

6:00 AM — Dawn game drive through Tsavo East's red plains. The bush is alive — spotted hyenas slink to their dens, secretary birds stalk on stilt legs, red elephants move toward waterholes. Visit Mudanda Rock for panoramic views across miles of wilderness.

After breakfast, cross into Tsavo West. The landscape transforms — flat red savannah gives way to rolling volcanic hills draped in dense bush, the Chyulu Hills silhouetted on the horizon.

Mzima Springs awaits — crystal-clear water bubbling up from underground volcanic rivers at 250 million litres per day. Step into the underwater viewing chamber: hippos glide gracefully beneath the surface, barbel fish dart between them, vervet monkeys play in the fig trees above.

The Shetani Lava Flow is next — a haunting expanse of jet-black volcanic rock from eruptions just 200 years ago. The Maasai named it "Shetani" — devil — believing the lava was released from the underworld.

Your afternoon game drive explores the Ngulia Hills, where the rhino sanctuary shelters Kenya's recovering black rhino population. Watch for leopard on rocky outcrops, lesser kudu in thick riverine bush, and Verreaux's eagles on thermals above the escarpment.

🍽️ Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3

Tsavo West to Amboseli National Park

~180km | Approx. 3 hrs

6:30 AM — A final early morning game drive through Tsavo West's rugged terrain. Klipspringer balance on boulder faces, rock hyrax sunbathe at crevice entrances, and hornbills swoop between the acacia canopy.

After breakfast, depart north toward Amboseli. The route takes you through the scenic corridor between the Chyulu Hills and the main highway. By late morning, a magnificent snow-capped silhouette materialises on the southern horizon — Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, rising 5,895 metres into the equatorial sky. The sight grows more commanding with every kilometre.

Arrive at Amboseli by early afternoon. After lunch with Kilimanjaro views, head out for your afternoon game drive. Amboseli's open terrain delivers Africa's most dramatic encounters — enormous elephant herds parade across dried lake beds with Kilimanjaro filling the sky behind them. Navigate the papyrus-fringed swamps fed by the mountain's underground springs where hippos surface lazily and crowned cranes pick through the shallows. As the golden light deepens, watch for lion prides beneath yellow-barked acacia trees. Elephants silhouetted against Kilimanjaro's evening profile — the sky ablaze with amber and violet — define Amboseli.

🍽️ Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4

Amboseli to Lake Naivasha

~350km | Approx. 5.5 hrs

5:30 AM — Rise before dawn for the clearest Kilimanjaro views — the mountain reveals its full glacial crown, glowing rose-pink then gold as the first sun strikes the ice cap. A morning game drive through Amboseli's finest circuits — elephant matriarchs lead their families between the swamps, buffalo graze the open plains. Climb Observation Hill for a final sweeping 360-degree panorama.

After breakfast, depart north for Lake Naivasha. The highway climbs through the Athi Plains and past Nairobi, then descends into the Great Rift Valley — the escarpment viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramas across the valley floor. Continue to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake fringed with papyrus at 1,884 metres altitude.

Arrive by mid-afternoon and check into your lakeside lodge. After settling in, board a boat for an afternoon boat safari on Lake Naivasha. Glide past pods of hippos surfacing just metres away, their ears twitching as they eye your boat. African fish eagles perch in the papyrus, their haunting cry echoing across the water — watch one swoop to snatch a fish in a flash of white and chestnut. Cormorants, kingfishers, herons, and lily-trotters crowd the shallows. The late afternoon light paints the water gold as you return to shore.

🍽️ Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5

Crescent Island Walking Safari & Lake Nakuru

~70km | Approx. 1.5 hrs

7:00 AM — After breakfast, take a short boat ride to Crescent Island — one of Kenya's hidden gems. This private wildlife sanctuary offers a rare walking safari experience where you stroll among free-roaming wildlife with no fences and no vehicles. Walk within metres of giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and waterbuck grazing peacefully on the lush island grassland. The island sits within the lake's flooded volcanic crater and the 360-degree views across the Rift Valley are stunning.

Return to the mainland by late morning and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. The short drive north takes you along the Rift Valley floor past the dormant Mount Longonot volcano.

Arrive at Lake Nakuru for lunch, then head out for an afternoon game drive. The alkaline lake's shores shimmer pink with thousands of flamingos feeding on spirulina algae. Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya's premier rhino sanctuaries — your guide tracks black and white rhinos through the yellow-barked acacia woodland. Watch for leopards draped across fever tree branches. Drive to Baboon Cliff viewpoint for a sweeping panorama of the lake, flamingos, and the Rift Valley escarpment rising behind. Lions, buffalo, and Rothschild's giraffes complete a spectacular afternoon.

🍽️ Meals:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6

Lake Nakuru to Nairobi

~160km | Approx. 3 hrs

7:00 AM — An early morning game drive through Lake Nakuru for a final chance to spot rhinos, leopards, and flamingos in the golden dawn light. The fever tree forest is magical at this hour — colobus monkeys swing through the canopy and hornbills call from the treetops.

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi. The road climbs out of the Rift Valley via the escarpment — pause at the viewpoint for one last sweeping vista across the valley floor. Continue through the fertile highlands past coffee plantations and flower farms.

Arrive in Nairobi by midday. Your driver drops you at your hotel, JKIA airport, or any location of your choice. Six days from turquoise ocean to pink-fringed alkaline lakes — through red elephant country, beneath Kilimanjaro's glaciers, across hippo-filled lakes, and into the flamingo shores of the Rift Valley. An epic overland safari across the full breadth of Kenya.
