Day-by-Day Itinerary
Nairobi - Lake Naivasha - Crescent Island - Hell’s Gate
7:00 AM. Your driver-guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel and you head northwest toward the Great Rift Valley. Within ninety minutes, Lake Naivasha appears — a shimmering freshwater expanse fringed by papyrus and fever trees. At the lakeshore jetty, board a boat for a sailing safari. Hippos surface alongside your vessel while fish eagles swoop from their perches with piercing calls. The boat delivers you to Crescent Island Sanctuary for a guided walking safari — strolling freely among giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest with no fences between you and the wildlife. After lunch, drive to Hell's Gate National Park, where towering rust-coloured cliffs frame a valley where you can hike (or opt for a bicycle safari) among zebras, buffaloes, and gazelles. Explore the dramatic Ol Njorowa Gorge, where geothermal steam hisses from rock fissures and hot springs bubble in the canyon floor. Fischer's Tower rises as a striking volcanic landmark. Return to your accommodation for dinner.
Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara Reserve
7:00 AM. After breakfast, check out and drive southwest toward the legendary Masai Mara — approximately four hours through the heart of Maasai country. The green lakeland of Naivasha gives way to open grassland rolling toward the horizon, dotted with Maasai homesteads and cattle herds. The final stretch of red murram road descends into the Mara basin, and suddenly the reserve's vast golden savannah spreads before you. Enter through the gate and game viewing begins immediately — towers of giraffe silhouetted against enormous skies, zebra herds rippling across the plains, and warthogs dashing through the scrub with their tails held comically upright. Check into your safari lodge for lunch, then head out for an afternoon game drive. Your guide navigates toward the Talek River, where lion prides rest in the shade and elephants browse the acacia woodland. The warm afternoon light turns the grasslands to gold as topi stand sentinel on every termite mound and secretary birds strut through the short grass.
Full Day in Masai Mara
6:00 AM. A full day in the Mara — Kenya's crown jewel. The dawn drive heads into the open plains where cheetahs launch explosive sprints and hyenas slink back to their dens. Your guide reads vulture patterns and fresh tracks to locate predators. By mid-morning, push toward the Mara River, where hippos grunt in muddy pools and Nile crocodiles bask on sandy banks. During migration season (July–October), thousands of wildebeest mass here for their dramatic river crossings. Enjoy a packed bush picnic lunch in the shade. The afternoon explores different sectors — the Musiara Marsh for elephants, or the Mara Triangle where vast herds concentrate. An optional hot air balloon safari at dawn (extra cost) offers a bird's-eye view. An optional Maasai village visit introduces you to the vibrant culture of Kenya's most famous people. Return for dinner as the sun sets behind the Oloololo Escarpment.
Masai Mara - Nairobi
6:00 AM. One final early morning game drive to soak in the Mara's magic. Soft golden light streams across the dew-covered grassland, and the morning chorus of birdsong fills the air. Your guide targets any species you haven't yet encountered — perhaps a black rhino in the thickets or a leopard draped languidly over a sausage tree branch. Scan the riverbanks for crocodiles and the kopjes for lions surveying their territory from rocky vantage points. By 9:00 AM, return for a full breakfast at your lodge, then check out and begin the return journey to Nairobi. The red-earth roads wind through Maasai country, where children wave from doorways and herdsmen walk their cattle to water. Rejoin the tarmac at Narok for the final stretch past the Rift Valley escarpment. Arrive in Nairobi by approximately 4:00 PM, with drop-off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
