Day-by-Day Itinerary
Nairobi to Amboseli
6:00 AM. Your driver-guide picks you up from your Nairobi hotel and you head south along the Namanga Road. The drive takes you through rolling farmlands and Maasai grazing lands, with Mount Kilimanjaro gradually appearing on the southern horizon — Africa's highest peak floating above the morning haze. After roughly four hours, you arrive at Amboseli National Park and check into your safari lodge for lunch. By early afternoon, you're out on your first game drive across the park's wide-open plains. Herds of elephants — Amboseli is home to over 1,500 — parade across the dried lake bed with Kilimanjaro towering behind them. Your guide navigates towards the Enkongo Narok swamp, where hippos surface lazily and crowned cranes pick through the shallows. As golden afternoon light settles over the savannah, watch for lions resting beneath yellow-barked acacia trees and giraffes browsing the woodland edges.
Full Day Amboseli
Wake before dawn for the best Kilimanjaro views — the mountain often reveals its full snowcapped summit in the early morning before clouds gather by mid-morning. By 6:30 AM, you're out on a game drive through Amboseli's diverse habitats: dried lake beds where dust devils dance in the heat, papyrus swamps fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro, and acacia woodland alive with superb starlings and lilac-breasted rollers. This is a photographer's paradise — elephants with enormous tusks walk against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro's glaciers. Around mid-morning, climb Observation Hill for a panoramic view of the entire park — the swamps, the open plains, and on clear days, both Kilimanjaro and distant Mount Meru. After lunch at your lodge, the afternoon drive explores the southern marshes where buffalo herds gather and egrets wade through the shallow waters in the golden light.
Amboseli to Diani Beach
Enjoy a final sunrise game drive in Amboseli — the early light paints Kilimanjaro's peak pink and gold above the plains, creating magical photography conditions. After breakfast at your lodge around 8:00 AM, you depart Amboseli and begin the journey towards Kenya's coast. The route takes you through the Tsavo corridor, where the landscape transitions from open savannah to semi-arid bushland dotted with baobab trees and red earth. You'll travel via Voi and along the Mombasa Highway, watching the vegetation gradually shift to lush coastal greenery as you approach the Indian Ocean. Cross the Likoni Ferry channel and continue south to Diani Beach, arriving by mid-afternoon. Your bush-to-beach adventure is complete — white coral sand, swaying palm trees, and the warm turquoise Indian Ocean welcome you to Kenya's finest coastline.
