Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Nairobi to Amboseli

6:00 AM. Depart Nairobi heading south along the Namanga Road as the early morning sun lights up the Athi Plains. The landscape shifts from urban sprawl to open farmland and rolling savannah, and after about two hours the enormous silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro — Africa's highest peak — begins to dominate the southern skyline. Your guide shares stories of the Maasai communities whose homesteads and cattle dot the roadside. By late morning you arrive at Amboseli National Park and check into your safari lodge for lunch. The afternoon game drive takes you deep into the park. Vast herds of elephants move across the open plains, their silhouettes framed against Kilimanjaro's snow-dusted summit — a photographer's dream. Your guide navigates toward the swamp areas where hippos wallow and flocks of pelicans, Egyptian geese, and secretary birds forage along the water's edge. As the light turns golden, you may spot a pride of lions resting in the low scrub before returning to your lodge for dinner.

Day 2

Full Day Amboseli

5:30 AM. Rise before dawn for the morning game drive — this is when Kilimanjaro is most likely to be cloud-free, its glaciers glowing pink in the early light. Elephant herds are already moving through the mist, their deep rumbles carrying across the silent plains. You head to Observation Hill, where a short climb rewards you with a stunning 360-degree panorama: the dried bed of Lake Amboseli, the green wetlands of Enkongo Narok, and the snow-capped peak towering above it all. Back in the vehicle, your guide tracks predators — cheetahs often hunt in the open grasslands while spotted hyenas patrol the swamp fringes. Return to your lodge for a leisurely breakfast and some rest during the midday heat. In the afternoon, you have the option to visit a local Maasai community to learn about their traditions, beadwork, and pastoral way of life. The evening drive explores the western side of the park, where buffalo herds graze and giraffes browse on acacia treetops as the sun dips below the horizon.

Day 3

Amboseli to Nairobi

5:30 AM. Your final dawn game drive makes the most of the early morning magic. The air is crisp and the savannah quiet, broken only by birdsong — the sharp cry of a fish eagle or the chattering of superb starlings in the scrub. Your guide takes you through areas not yet explored, perhaps toward Kimana Sanctuary on the park's eastern edge, where elephant families congregate at the springs and zebra herds graze alongside wildebeest. With luck, you'll spot a solitary cheetah perched on a termite mound, scanning the plains for prey. After a final lingering look at Kilimanjaro reflecting in the swamp waters, you return to your lodge for breakfast and check out. The drive back to Nairobi takes you through the open countryside, with a packed lunch enjoyed en route. You arrive in Nairobi by mid-afternoon, carrying with you the memory of elephants marching beneath Africa's greatest peak.
