About Katavi National Park

Katavi National Park is Tanzania's third-largest national park and one of Africa's best-kept secrets. Covering 4,471 square kilometres of remote floodplain, miombo woodland, and seasonal lakes in western Tanzania, Katavi delivers raw, unfiltered African wilderness with virtually zero tourist crowds. During the dry season (July–October), the shrinking Katuma River and Lake Katavi draw staggering concentrations of hippos — pools of 200 or more jostling shoulder-to-shoulder — along with enormous crocodiles, massive buffalo herds numbering in the thousands, and opportunistic lion prides. This is safari at its most primal: no gift shops, no paved roads, no minibus convoys — just you, your guide, and the wild.

Why Visit Katavi National Park?

Katavi offers what few parks on Earth can: genuine solitude in a wildlife-rich wilderness. You may go an entire day without seeing another vehicle while encountering thousands of buffalo, hundreds of hippos, and predators on the hunt. The dry season transforms Katavi into one of Africa's most dramatic landscapes — animals converge on dwindling water sources creating scenes of incredible density. For experienced safari-goers seeking something beyond the Serengeti circuit, Katavi is the ultimate reward.
